Frequently Asked Questions
Newborn Photography FAQs
When is the best time to book a newborn photography session?
The best time to book is while you're still pregnant, ideally during your second or third trimester. This way, we can pencil in your due date and make sure there's a spot reserved for when your little one arrives. If your baby is already here, don't stress! Just reach out and I'll always do my best to fit you in.
How old should my baby be for their session?
Most newborn photoshoots happen within the first two weeks after birth. That's when babies are still in that beautiful sleepy stage, which helps create those curled-up poses everyone loves. That being said, every baby is different and lovely photos can be captured at any age.
What if my baby has had a rough night and won't settle during the session?
I've been there! I know what it's like when your little one keeps you up all night and you wonder how on earth you'll get through the next day. Please don't worry for a second. I work with unsettled babies all the time. I'll take my time, follow your baby's cues and use gentle wrapping and soothing techniques to help them feel calm and secure. There's absolutely no pressure — if your baby needs a cuddle or a feed, we simply go with the flow.
How long does a newborn photoshoot take?
My newborn photography sessions usually run for only around 60 minutes. I'm all about keeping things relaxed and baby-led, so there's plenty of time for feeds, nappy changes and little breaks if needed.
Do I need to bring anything?
Just your baby and the essentials like nappies, wipes, bottles or feeding supplies and a dummy if your little one uses one. I have everything else covered — wraps, blankets, outfits and props are all provided here in my cosy Vermont home based photography studio.
Can siblings, parents or grandparents be included in the photos?
Absolutely. Those moments with big brothers or sisters holding their new baby sibling are so special. I always encourage families to jump in for a few photos too. The more the merrier — even bring your furry family members if you wish!
What should we wear?
Keep it simple and neutral. Soft earthy tones, creams, whites, or muted colours always photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your baby. That said, don't be afraid to use colour or wear whatever feels most like you! I can help guide you before your session if you'd like to send me some outfit ideas.
How soon do we get to see our photos?
You'll get to see your photos straight after your session — usually within about 20 minutes, once I've done a few quick light edits. It's a beautiful and emotional moment for parents.
Do you do retouching or heavy editing?
No, I keep my editing natural and true to life. I make light adjustments for exposure and cropping, but I don't use skin retouching unless specifically requested.
How much does a session cost and what's included?
My session fee is $200, which covers your time in the studio and your same-day viewing appointment. You then decide on the day which package or products you'd like to purchase — there's no minimum spend and no pressure to commit to anything prior to the shoot.
What if my baby arrives early or late?
That's totally fine! I keep plenty of flexibility in my schedule for this exact reason. Once your baby arrives, just get in touch and we'll confirm a date that works best for you and your little one.
Is your studio safe and warm for newborns?
Yes, absolutely. My studio in Vermont is fully set up for newborn comfort — quiet, toasty warm, and designed to make both you and your baby feel relaxed.
What if I've had a C-section or I'm nervous about getting out of the house with my baby?
You're not alone. My studio is calm, welcoming and completely set up so you can just arrive and rest. You won't need to lift, bend or do anything strenuous.
Is there any pressure or minimum spend requirement after our session?
Not at all. I never want parents to feel obligated or rushed into making decisions. You only purchase the images or products that you truly love.
Maternity Photography FAQs
When is the best time to book a maternity session?
The best time for maternity photos is usually between 32 and 36 weeks, when your bump is beautifully round but you're still feeling relatively comfortable. If you're expecting twins or have been advised of an early delivery, we can schedule it a little sooner.
What should I wear for my maternity photos?
Wear what makes you feel most comfortable and beautiful. Neutral tones photograph beautifully, but the main thing is that you feel like yourself. I've also got a studio wardrobe full of beautiful gowns, but you're also welcome to wear something of your own.
I don't have any clothes that fit — do you have a wardrobe for me (and my daughter)?
Yes, absolutely! My client wardrobe has a range of beautiful maternity gowns and dresses that flatter all shapes and sizes. I also have a small collection of girls' dresses ranging from 1–7 years that pair perfectly with the maternity pieces.
Can my partner and kids be in the photos too?
Absolutely! Maternity sessions are about your family's excitement as you wait for your newest addition. Partners, children, grandparents and even pets are more than welcome.
I'm not sure I'll feel confident in front of the camera… what if I feel awkward?
Almost every mum feels that way before their session. It's my job to guide you — you won't need to know what to do with your hands or how to pose. I'll gently direct you every step of the way.
Do you offer outdoor maternity photos?
Yes! You can choose between a studio photography session for a timeless, elevated and intimate look, or an outdoor session for something more relaxed, candid and full of movement.
Do you offer a bundled package for both the maternity and newborn sessions?
Yes, I sure do! The bump-to-baby bundle includes both your maternity and newborn sessions, giving you a beautiful mix of images that tell your full story — and it's more cost-effective than booking separately.
What products are best for showcasing both sessions?
My most popular choice for clients who do both sessions is an editorial album, which tells your story from bump to baby. You can also pair it with a wall art collection featuring one maternity image alongside a matching newborn image.
What makes your maternity sessions different?
It's not just about pretty photos — it's about capturing emotion, connection, and anticipation. I also offer same-day image viewing and immediate digital delivery, with a clean, minimal editing style.
Is there any pressure to buy a package upfront?
Not at all. There's no minimum spend or obligation when you book with me. You simply pay your session fee and decide what you'd like to purchase after you've seen your photos.
Headshot & Personal Branding FAQs
What is a headshot and personal branding photography session?
A headshot is a professional portrait that focuses on you, usually from the chest or shoulders up -for LinkedIn, websites, or company profiles. A personal branding session goes a step further, capturing a mix of portraits, lifestyle-style shots and detail images that reflect who you are and what you do.
How long does a session take?
Most sessions take around 60-90 minutes, depending on how much variety you'd like.
I'm not photogenic and feel awkward in front of the camera, can you help?
Absolutely! I'll guide you the whole way through with clear direction and fun conversation to help you relax and feel confident.
What should I wear for my session?
Wear something that feels like you. Neutrals and simple tones usually photograph well, but comfort and confidence are what really matter. I also offer zoom calls to go over your wardrobe prior to the shoot if you wish.
Can I change outfits?
Yes, definitely. Most clients bring two to three outfit options so we can create different looks , one more polished and professional like blazers etc, others more more relaxed or casual and some inbetween.
Do you help with posing and expression?
Always. I'll guide you through exactly how to stand, where to look and what to do with your hands plus I show sneak peeks on the camera during the session.
What makes you different to other headshot photographers?
Years of experience photographing families, kids and newborns has taught me how to connect with people quickly and help them relax in front of the camera. You'll leave with photos that go beyond the standard white background, stiff smile headshot and you'll leave feeling more confident and excited to use these photos in your business than ever.
Where do sessions take place?
All headshot and personal branding sessions are held in my Vermont photography studio, with outdoor or on-location options available on request.
How soon do I get my photos?
You'll get to see your photos straight after your session, once I've done a few light edits and you get to choose your favourites right then and there.
Do you retouch the images?
I keep my editing natural and realistic. Only light adjustments to colour and exposure, but no heavy retouching.
Can I use the images for social media and websites?
Yes, of course. Your photos are yours to use across all your professional platforms like LinkedIn, your website, business cards, social media and marketing materials.
How much does it cost and what's included?
My session fee is $200 and covers your time in the studio and same-day viewing appointment as well as 1 digital file of your choicet. You then decide which images or packages you'd like to purchase.
Is there any pressure or minimum spend after the session?
Not at all. You only buy what you truly love. My goal is for the experience to feel easy, enjoyable and empowering.
