Why I Do What I Do – My Heart Behind the Lens

Every time I pick up my camera, I’m reminded of why I started this journey in the first place. For me, photography has never been just a job. It’s a calling, a passion, and a powerful way to honour life’s most meaningful moments especially for families, women, and mothers.

As a professional portrait photographer in Melbourne, I get to witness stories unfold in front of me every single day. Whether it’s a brand new baby snuggled into their parents’ arms, a mum getting in the photo for the first time in years, or a woman seeing herself through new, empowered eyes during a headshot or branding session.

This is my why.

I do what I do so that you can see the beauty in your life—the way your baby wraps their tiny fingers around yours, the joyful chaos of toddlers, the tender way you hold your child, the quiet strength in your smile. But more than anything, I do it to make sure you exist in the photos—because one day, those images will become some of the most treasured items your family owns.

And I practise what I preach. Every single year, without fail, I book in a professional family photography session for my own family. My girls are growing fast, and I want them to look back one day and not just see photos of themselves, but to see me too, present, involved, and full of love. I don’t want them to remember me always behind the camera or caught up in the busyness of life. I want them to remember that I showed up, for them and for myself.

Because photography isn't just about memories, it's about legacy.

My photography sessions aren’t just about smiling at the camera. They’re a time to pause. To breathe. To reflect on everything you’ve built. Whether you’re a mum who’s poured your heart into raising your children, or a woman who’s worked hard to build a career, a business, or a life you’re proud of—you deserve to be celebrated.

As women, we often get stuck in the grind. There’s always another to-do list, another meal to cook, another email to answer. But when you step in front of my lens, I give you the chance to just be. To honour how far you’ve come. To capture the beauty of now. Because you’re worth remembering, exactly as you are.

And remember having professional photos taken is never about how you look. It’s about being present. Showing up. Celebrating yourself so that your children and family can one day look back and say:
"She loved us enough to be in these photos. She was there. She showed up. Isn’t she amazing? Aren’t we lucky?"

That’s what matters. That’s what lasts.
