When life is busy, kids are growing fast, and money is being spent in a hundred different directions, it can feel indulgent to book a professional photographer. Especially when we all have phones in our pockets that take pretty decent photos.
But here is the truth I see every single day.
Professional family photos are not about looking perfect. They are about remembering this exact stage of life.
There are photographers at all price points, and that can make the decision confusing. Some photographers, like me, sit a little higher in price. And that is not because you are paying for more images or fancy edits.
You are paying for experience.
The photographers experience in their professional field. The overall experience you receive whilst having the photos taken. The Experience in the lead up to viewing and selecting your photos.
With over 15 years of photographing families myself, I am not just clicking a shutter. I am juggling toddlers who do not want to sit still, babies who need settling, pets who want to steal the spotlight, and parents who feel anxious about how they will look- and sometimes all at once!
I know how to read the room. I know when to slow things down and when to move quickly. I know how to keep things calm, efficient, and connected.
That experience creates a completely different feeling for families. Less stress. More ease. More genuine moments.
I hear it time and time again- "oh wow that was so much fun and so easy!'
This is the part that matters more than most people realise.
So many family photos exist because mum or dad was behind the camera. Making sure everyone else is captured. Making memories for everyone else.
But one day, your children will look back and want to see you too, and most importantly everyone together in the one photo.
Not how perfect you looked. But how you looked at them.
The way you held them close. The way you laughed with them. The way you belonged right there in the middle of the chaos and love.
Professional family photography allows parents to step out from behind the camera and into the story. Their story.
Family photos are not about freezing time. They are about honouring it.
Your children will never be this age again. This version of your family will never exist in quite the same way.
Whether you have school aged children, toddlers, or babies, each season carries its own magic. And its own challenges.
Professional family photos capture more than faces. They capture connection. Personality. Relationships. The feeling of this chapter.
This is something I believe in so deeply that I live it myself.
Every single year, I pay a professional photographer to take family photos of me, my husband, and our two little girls.
Not because I always feel confident. Not because life feels perfectly together.
But because I want to exist in our memories for my kids.
I want my girls to look back and see that I showed up. That I was there. That I loved them enough to put any insecurities aside and step into the frame.
These photos are not for today. They are for years from now. They will be my legacy.
It always comes down to what you value.
If you value convenience and quick snaps, your phone might be enough.
If you value memories, connection, and an experience that allows you to be fully present with your family, professional photos in my opinion are absolutely worth it.
Especially when they are created by someone who understands families, children, and parents because they have lived it and photographed it for years.
If you have been thinking about updating your family photos, consider what you want your children to remember.
Not how you looked. But how you loved them.
If you would love a family photography experience that feels calm, guided, and deeply meaningful, I would love to photograph your family.
